It's the dream of every gamer out there. A real time Heads Up Display that gives you readings of everything around you. Imagine, a running counter of the money in your wallet, a direct link to your RSS feed, global information, all before your very eyes.
So how does it work? The augmented reality headset, as it's been called, utilises a British piece of tech akin to a microscopic slide. It obtains light from a computer or camera, converts it into a 3D hologram and then focuses it in your field of vision. The closest reference would be the display on the inside of Iron Man's helmet.
“We’ve all seen Tony Stark’s view of the world when he wears his Iron Man suit – information about his world projected in his line of sight. Now we’ll be able to experience it for ourselves. We’ll be working with the developers of augmented-reality devices on a wide range of applications,” Dr Simon Hall, National Physical Laboratory, UK
The potential with this technology is limitless. Assisting blind people, armed forces, medical professions and firefighters may be just the start of it.
Perhaps a competitor for Google Glass?
