Pichai, 43, is a long-time Google executive who most recently served as the company's senior vice president of products, according to Reuters. Pichai, a well-liked executive who oversaw Google's Android and Chrome units, is respected in Silicon Valley for attracting top engineers.
Page also announced the formation of the new parent company Alphabet, of which he will be the CEO and Google co-founder Sergey Brin will be President.
Among the first to wish him were Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
